The District was formed following a vote of property owners in 2009 to support a voluntary property tax to fund these additional services over the next 10 years.

KoreaTown-Northgate Benefit District

The KoreaTown-Northgate District is a lively and diverse business district on Telegraph Avenue between 20th and 35th Streets in Oakland, California. KoreaTown-Northgate includes an important Korean-American commercial center, a creative arts community that participates in the monthly First Friday Art Murmur event, Alta Bates-Summit Medical Center and other healthcare services, new residential projects including the Telegraph (old Sears) Lofts and a growing variety of multi-ethnic restaurants, shops and services that are working to revitalize the neighborhood.

Vicolo Pizza

Vicolo Pizza (veek.oh.lo), from the Italian for "little alley" was named for our original location in San Francisco. Out of that little alley, we've earned our reputation for rustic, handmade, corn meal crust pizzas topped with freshly prepared seasonal ingredients. Inspired by centuries old Italian cooking traditions, our crust combines freshly ground non-GMO organic corn meal, unbleached wheat flour, and extra virgin olive oil to create a distinctively rich taste and texture.

Local Social

Local Social is an Oakland-based collaborative whose mission is to engage the community to connect with art in a new and interesting way, via a blog and through social settings. The LS collaborative taps into the art world and makes art accessible for everyone; showcasing fine art, architecture, graphic design, installation, and trends in a new and approachable way.

Pro Arts

Supporting the arts within communities by serving the ongoing needs of artists. Pro Arts provides critical access to contemporary art in the region and serves as a regional hub for arts activities, independent curated exhibitions, advocacy, arts education and capacity building artist services --fiscal sponsorship to artists and professional exhibition services matching artists with community partners. We produce 15 exhibitions annually, exhibit over 500 artists, and reach an annual audience over 72,000.

Six months ago, Sarah Filley and Alfonso Dominguez launched a new urban initiative and small business incubator revitalizing Oakland, block by block. This pilot location served as a testing ground for their initiative to rethink retail and the role it plays in revitalizing our cities.

popuhood curated Marion and Rose’s Workshop, Crown Nine, Piper and John’s General Goods, and Sticks + Stones Gallery and offered them 6 months free rent in previously vacant storefronts. Through cross- sector partnerships, international press and events, popuphood increased creative activity and provided a distinct identity and vibrant local economy to this pilot neighborhood. .
