Kathleen King’s recent assemblage and sculpture is comprised of materials gathered from city streets and the waste stream. This new body of work colligates discarded manufactured objects—plastic containers, metal frames, and other found structural pieces—with fragments of clothing and other detritus. As modernist geometrical forms are combined with improvised and precarious formations, 20th and 21st century systems and ideas are referenced and re-arranged. What are we made of? Jill McLennan’s work moves from local to global focus as she documents the movement of humans and animals around the planet in Migration Altered. McLennan’s paintings address the human impact on the earth through time, traveling back to a place inhabited by indigenous people and looking forward to damaged wetlands being reclaimed by birds. McLennan states, “I am processing the shadows we have cast on our beloved natural world and sharing the stories of those who wander searching for light.”…

Join us First Friday for a solo exhibition with delicious paintings by David Burke. Fleshy pinks, candy reds, and iridescent green fat shimmer in these monumental ink drawings. Burke's work often explores the intersection between man-made and natural worlds. The specific inspiration for Meat Candy comes from a personal examination of our meat consumption and production. Like a contemporary twist on a cubist still-life, Burke abstracts and repeats his subject with masterful design that results in graceful, dynamic compositions. These…

"Ferrouge's Ties and Capes portrays two of the artist's daughters playing dress-up. Both wear men's hats and neckties, with blankets tied around their shoulders as makeshift capes. One of the girls stares out at the viewers with happy confidence; the other straightens her hat, staring off to the left, and lifting her chin in a pout. Neither smiles in the sentimental way of so many conventional images of children. Instead, we see their complex personalities and their playful exploration of…

Batgirl and Robin is about friendship that bridges us together from a young age. The best part of a youthful game is the fun we have when we are on the same team looking out for each other. We concoct storylines that unites us against the "bad guys". Memories from this make-believe playtime forms our identities and prepares us for life. While rigor and reason shore up Euclid's logical system of plane geometry, Charlie Milgrim takes a more intuitive approach and renders her own geometric system of the three basic planes—the circle, square, and triangle. In Plane Shapes she creates an association of non-objective paintings and objects in which concentric and eccentric circles—one ordered, one disordered— collide with the linear edges and sharp corners of squares and triangles.
