Artists Christine Meuris and Kristina Nobleman are In Symmetry. With the concepts of wholeness and balance in mind, they have created work in their related yet unique visual languages. Both artists are inspired by the basic grid pattern of plain weave textiles and the effect that simple methods like folding, cutting, or removing threads can achieve in creating harmonious imagery that aspires to convey more than the sum of its parts. Using a restrained palette and limited materials, such as paper,…

Photographing at night, Serafimidis explores the natural open space along the East Bay shoreline that, during the day, functions as an escape for…

Pantea Karimi grew up perceiving the cube as a complex “distorted” object, better defined by culture and religion than geometry. In cube is NOT geometric, by utilizing video, animation, wall drawing, and sculpture, Karimi investigates the cube relevant to her personal experiences, past and present, in three contexts: political, religious, and playful. Her cube is consciously and conscientiously not geometric. These works are inspired by Sol LeWitt’s geometrical wall drawings, prints, and 3-dimensional work. In particular, Karimi is inspired by…

Elizabeth Sher explores the spiritual nature of words in her latest body of work Mark My Words. These hand-drawn and neon pieces are Sher’s response to the inundation of words that infiltrate her waking and sleeping mind. Using bamboo pen and jewel-toned ink on handmade paper, Sher creates poetic strings of magical words in phrases that push back against the infiltration. “Who stole my dream”, one drawing asks?  Employing belligerence and wit, she limns a favorite playground retort: “Says Who”.…

Johansson Projects presents Someday Morning, a two-person exhibition of works by Brian Scott Campbell and Matthew F Fisher. The works in this show skew toward perceptually driven portrayals of nature: a wave, the sun, a waterfall, a grove of trees, rolling hills, winding paths.
