Forest Fire exhibits dynamic new paintings by Christine Ferrouge. In these monumental works, girls wander through a gloomy backdrop of damaged forest and dance with gestural marks, rough edges, and a united palette of charcoal, earth and fiery hues. The somewhat benign, unlikely young female heroes possess surprising strength, presence, and hope. Ferrouge is primarily a figurative painter, but in this new exhibition, companion abstract works are included alongside the forest fire scenes.

About the Artist
Christine Ferrouge creates narrative paintings of childhood where character and identity are forming quietly beneath the surface. The models for her subjects are often girls. The paintings are a glimpse into the serious work of imaginative play where the children practice adapting to their social culture or physical environment. Ferrouge's paintings are larger than life and her subjects are dignified, confident, and thoughtful. This documentation of girlhood is both contemporary and timeless.
