P.K. Frizzell: The Last Tree – MERCURY 20 GALLERY
May 7 - June 12Free
Recently, the video, painting and sculptural work of P.K. Frizzell has focused on climate change. For this show, Frizzell presents a new series of mixed-media paintings called The Last Tree, an emotional response to climate change events that destroy forests and to the latest discoveries about the interdependence and cooperative nature of trees. New research has revealed that trees help each other through their root systems, healthy trees assist struggling trees, and diverse groups of trees thrive more than a monoculture of trees. In addition to complex communication between trees, recordings have been made of sounds emanating from one tree to others. The Last Tree proposes that humans should consider what the loss of trees means for our own future. Frizzell asks us to see through the perspective of trees and learn from their collaborative connections.
