“That That Lies Between”: New Work by Wayne Armstrong

April 23 @ 12:00 pm - June 4 @ 5:00 pm

Manna Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of oil in canvas landscapes and collages by Oakland artist Wayne Armstrong. “That That Lies Between” opens Saturday, April 24 and continues to Saturday, June 4. Wayne’s reception will happen on First Saturday May 7.  He will be here at the gallery from 2 – 4 pm to greet gallery visitors and discuss the ideas and issues behind this current body of work.

No stranger to the gallery, Wayne’s latest show is yet another new development from his ongoing studio practice.  A tireless worker always exploring new ideas and techniques, his evolution as an artist continues to unfold.

Wayne says this about these recent landscapes,” I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley where, on a clear day, I could often see both the Sierra Mountains and the Coastal Range. How that experience looked and felt has remained with me always.  These paintings are less about specific locations and more about my memories living in the valley as I grew up and how those memories are  with me today.”

Wayne was born and educated in California and worked for over 30 years in the field of art education.  He presently lives in Oakland and works at Magnolia Studios.

He has exhibited in galleries and art events in Hayward, San Francisco, Oakland, Laguna Beach and Ashland, Oregon.  His work is in many public and private collections throughout the United States.  Eight of the collections contain more that five of his artworks.

For many years, he was represented by Resources for Art, San Francisco and Art Resources Group, Santa Ana Heights, California.  Besides showing with Manna Gallery, he is represented by Howard Hanson Gallery in Ashland, Oregon.
